The deadlines are getting closer...the stress is getting stronger; bigger. The sweat dripping from my face, leaving a puddle of worry. Wow, that sounded like the first sentences of a prologue or something. Well anyways, for this week's required blog post, I will be writing a project update on my 2nd quarter project. In this blog I will be telling you first, about me and my partner's 2nd quarter project, then how it is going so far.
Well to start this blog off, It would be a good idea to tell you what my project is about. My partner Lilly and I are doing our 2nd quarter project on Styrofoam containers, take out containers, you know that kind of things. So there are 2 organizations, "Zero Waste" and "Kauai Surfrider Foundation" which first teamed up in 2009 to remove the use of plastic bags in shopping markets and stores and replace them with paper bags and/or reusable bags. These 2 foundations are teaming up again, but this time, for the removal of Styrofoam containers in restaurants and replacing them with biodegradable and compostable alternatives.
We have gotten 3 interviews, of Pat Gegen, Allison Fraley, and Gordon LaBedz and transcribed them both, a while back. I thought Allison's interview came out really nice, however Gordon's and Pat's I thought we could improve on. There was a shadow on Pat's face and the background of Gordon's were in focus. We got our scripts revised and got it approved from Mr.Matsunaga.
Right now we are working on editing. Because Lilly did the Voice Overs last quarter, It was my turn to do it this quarter. So today, I recorded the voice overs. I admit, I don't really speak clear and I don't really sound enthusiastic, so Lilly gave me some helpful tips. I'm not sure how well I did, but I hope I sounded okay, as VO are pretty important, and a big part in the grading rubric. One thing we really need more is B-roll. At the moment we don't really have much good b-roll so I would like to get more of that, so I took a camera and a tripod home and I hope I can get some decent shots over the weekend.
Overall, with our projects due on Tuesday, and our radios due on the same week, it's a stressful time. But, it's possible, and I believe with hard effort, and good teamwork, we can turn this in on time, and do a good, maybe even a great job. Goodbye to you all.......
It's that time of the year again! It's December and the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting longer, which means more time for Christmas Movies! Hot Cocoa, tiny marshmallows, and a big bowl of popcorn, getting into the holiday spirit. Christmas trees, Lights, parades, Presents under the tree are all about Christmas! My favorite Christmas movie would be "The Santa Clause". Another one of my favorite Christmas movies is "Home Alone 2: Christmas" where Kevin gets lost in New York.
Charlie and "Santa" Scott delivering presents.
The Santa Clause is one of my favorite Christmas movie because it's just a fun, movie that gets you into the holiday spirit!! It's also a kind of movie for the whole family, it's not to childish or kiddish. The Santa Clause is a movie about just a normal, ordinary man, who becomes the one and only Santa Clause, by involuntarily killing Santa Clause from falling off of Scott Calvin's roof. The Body then disappears and a card is found inside Santa's clothing; which states that if something should happen to Santa, whoever finds the clothes must put them on and get inside his sleigh. Scott's son, Charlie convinces his father to do so, so he does and Scott doesn't know it yet, but he just became Santa! He begins to gain weight and to grow a beard, and every time he attempts to shave it, it just grows back again!
The School Christmas Pageant
Home Alone 2 is one of my favorite Christmas movie because it's funny and clever!! When I was younger, I could watch Home Alone all day long. The Plot of the Home Alone Movies is that "Kevin" and his family is once again separated, but this time; instead of going with the McCallister's family to Miami, Kevin ends up in New York, with his Dad's Bag containing Peter's (dad) wallet that consists of a large amount of money . One of my favorite parts of Home Alone is when Kevin's older brother, Buzz, embarrasses Kevin in the School Christmas Pagent, during his solo and things go terribly wrong; total madness. All of the students fall, and the decorations fall on the piano player. Kevin get's very angry and resentful, and doesn't want to go to Flordia. The McCallister family overslept, and were going to miss there flight. Kevin gets lost and follows a man with a case, that looks identical to Kevin's Dad, from the back. As Kevin once again gets seperated between his family over miles and miles, he does not realise they are on different planes, going to different locations, until later. As Kevin lands in New York, he scores a room at this hotel using his Dad's credit card. But, Kevin has gotten in trouble with two bandits, Marv and Harry. And that's where the adventure begins; with traps and clever set-ups, danger fills the air.
The Polar Express
My last favorite Christmas movie I will talk about is "The Polar Express". Polar Express is a old movie, but it is one of my favorite because it just gets me into the Holiday Spirit and fun for the whole family. On Christmas Eve, a boy starts to doubt Santa Claus. A conductor invites him to come on board the Polar Express, and that it will lead to the North Pole. With some hesitation at first, he gets on, and joins other children. And at the end, his belief in Santa is restored and the children gets presents.
Well that's about it! My favorite Holiday movies are, "The Santa Clause", "Home Alone 2: Christmas Edition/ Lost in New York", and "The Polar Express". They are all just a fun, hilarious, family movies. What are your holiday movies that you recommend? (Because I don't watch that much movies....mostly only television shows). Have a nice day, Byee Everyone!
Thanksgiving is a holiday where we eat a lot of different kinds of food and where we say what we are thankful for. It is celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November. At my house, our older brother comes down from college and we can have dinner as family. It I a time to spend with your family and friends. For this weeks blog, I will be writing about what I am thankful for, So here is what I am thankful for.
To begin with, I am thankful for a shelter I can call "home". I actually didn't have a house, (well of course I had a house), but not a house that we actually owned, until I was about 7 or 8 or some age around there. We moved around a lot, first we were living at a house in Hanamaulu then we moved to a house in Eleele until we finally rented a house in Kalaheo. At that time, my parents were building the house that I live in now that is in Puhi, which was okay I guess, but the fun part was getting to help paint and getting to pick which rooms we want. We also had some pretty good neighbors, and we still are friends, although we don't see them very often. But no matter where I lived or what house I was in, I could always call it my home. "Home Sweet Home"
Another thing I am thankful for is family. They have always been there for me, through thick and thin. Although we may fight, it's alright because we will always make up at the end of the day. They support me in any thing I do and is very caring. My brother, as annoying as he is, helps me a lot since he is basically like Google. He helps me with my homework, if I don't understand something and when my computer gets all crazy. Besides being smart, he's also a very good board game player. The other day we were playing a card game, he beat me almost every time! Of course we got into a little argurment and the cards ended up ripped and in the trash can...but he's a really good playmate! Another person I am thankful for is my mother. She drives me everywhere, feeds me, cooks for me. She cares and loves me. Oh, and my older brother Austin. He just went up to college, which sucks because we always did things together--we drew, we watched movies and tv, and went bowling. But it's okay, because he will be able to cook me delicious food when he comes back.
I am also thankful for my friends. They make me laugh and smile, and they make me red when I am feeling blue. And we hang out and they can make me laugh, a lot. They provide me with a bunch of support and honesty. I'm not going to specifically say who but I hope they know who they are and how grateful and thankful to have them as friends; because they are the best friends a person could ask for.
AND A VERY BIG THANK YOU TO MR.M I'd like to thank whoever created the internet, because honestly, it's a really great invention. I'd also like to thank the guy who created the toilet, another great invention...because you know, without the toilet.... Okay! Well, that's about it for this blog. Have a save and thankful thanksgiving everyone!
"Ohana means family and family means no one gets left behind or forgotten" -Lilo and Stitch
For this weeks blog post, I will be writing about the CKTV Ohana. I had to think a lot about this topic as it was a bit more personal and I erased this introductory paragraph so I had to Rewrite the whole thing (which was frankly annoying), but after a lot of work and thinking here it goes. In my family, at my house, to be truthful, yes we do fight like most families do, but after a lot of fighting and trouble, we actually just forget what we were fighting about, it could be a really small thing, hey who knows! But at the end of the day, we will always make up and go back to loving each other. That's what I'd like to think of with the CKTV Ohana--except without the fighting. True, sometimes we may have arguments or fights, and it could be over just a small thing, but hey, that's family, and they will always make-up, because you can't stay mad at someone forever! We all know that Ohana means family, which is true, but her is what the CKTV family means to me. My definition of Ohana is to help people out and include everyone.
When I got the letter in the mail, the letter that said I was accepted into the media class, I was really happy. I have no idea why, but I guess I was really excited that I would get to learn about media and how to work with different technology with and from some people who are the same age or grade as me and other peers that are older than me, who are experienced in this kinds of things. Well anyways, I went to that beginner camp in the summer. I remember walking in there and only recognizing 1 person who was from the same elementary school as me. And that was Nicole Matsushigie. However, we didn't really hang out at that time so I basically knew no one there, as a lot were either in 7th grade or from different schools. In one of the activities Mr. M said to pick a partner. I honestly did not know who to pick. I kind of just stood there awkwardly (ha), but then Justice asked me if I wanted to be partners. And that is what I thought was true CKTV Ohana. We were basically strangers, we knew nothing about each other, but yet she included me, helped me and showed me how to do certain things.
To me, being in the media class isn't just another grade or it isn't just another class. I feel like we are apart of a team. We all have to cooperate as a team when we are working the morning announcements or to pick up after another person who may have accidently left some equipment out or even when we go up to Flordia to compete at STN. Same thing goes with you and your partner. Using We, us, and ours and not I or me. We all play an important part in the team, whether its with the morning announcements or helping others, because we are all apart of the CKTV team, we are all in this together, so if helping a classmate is helping the team, then I think that is what the CKTV Ohana is.
Being apart of this team, the cktv ohana, means a lot to me. They have provided me with help, compliments, and friends. Although Mr. M is tough on us, it is only because he wants the best of our work.
Well, now a couple months into the school year, I know a lot of people much better than from the camp or the potluck dinner. I also created some friends from different schools. From completely strangers to basically best friends, I would say a big improvement. I learned who my real friends were and stuck with them in this crazy adventure. And guess what? We are still in it... Come join us :)
Hey Everyone! As the 2nd quarter began, so did our 2nd quarter media projects. For this weekly blog, we are supposed to write about how our 2nd quarter project is going.
My partner and I were originally doing our project on how you need to pay to use the bathroom at a restaurant named "Lighthouse Bistro" at Kong Lung Village Shopping Center. However, the person we were scheduled to do a interview with said he had a very busy schedule and couldn't do one anymore, plus, the b-roll would have been a bit weird. So we moved on with our back-up plan.
Our back-up plan was to do it on Styrofoam. Yeah, that sounded a bit boring. Let me rephrase that. So there are two organizations, "Kauai Surfrider Foundation" and "Zero Waste". They are planning on taking down Styrofoam take-out boxes and replacing it with biodegradable containers, just like how they banned plastic bags and replaced them as well. Well, anyways, my partner and I are behind. We have some interviews that we have scheduled next week, but the thing is, we both have different schedules!! Sometimes we would schedule an interview then have to cancel it or move it an hour earlier because I wasn't sure-sure that I was free then.
Although we are behind on our interviews, I takes my partner and I very little time to transcribe because we transcribe at home as soon as we finish an interview. So far we have 2 interviews scheduled, and we are still scheduling times for interviews.
New projects, more things we can improve on. Although we are behind, I believe we will catch up. But until then, Byee!
Hello! For this weeks blog, I will be writing about whether or not I think TV will still exist in 10 years. I watch TV often, like a lot. I normally watch shows like "Doctor Who", "Nikita", "Torchwood", "Sherlock", and stuff like that. To begin with, yes, I think TV will still be around in 10 years.
Television will stick around in 10 years because of the long-lasting tv shows. Take "Doctor Who" for example, they will be having they're 50th year anniversary show in 11 days that will be playing on TV and in 3-D in Theaters!!
TV will still be here in 10 years because it is advancing wih the new technology these days. For example, they have 3-D television now, and smart tv's that can search the internet and youtube or hulu plus!
Television is something that will stick around. Although all of these new technology are here, some are compatible with tv's! With my tv, you can use your phone or ipad or even itouch and it will be as a keyboard for the television!
Television will still be here in 10 years. With all these old long lasting tv shows, and new technology, how can it not!! That's all for now. Byee!! :D
Hello Everyone! (As you might have noticed, I have switched from Edublogs to Weebly!) Every year, CKTV takes a trip to compete at a convention for S.T.N., or the Student Television Network. Well this year, the media class will be taking a trip to Flordia. Well anyways, for this weeks blog, we are supposed to write about the STN competition we would like to be apart of. Some of these categories consist of anchor team, PSA, movie trailer, spot feature, commercial, and music video. As I am a new student to the media class, I had no idea of what these were, so I asked my partner. I had to think a lot about this because there are just so many to choose from. After thinking about it a lot, I came to a conclusion. I'd like to do either the Spot Feature or Movie Trailer.
I'd to like to do the Spot Feature because I'd like to know about another person's life. It also seems like an cool category to begin with. I actually watched last year's team spot feature video, it was very interesting and I thought they did a good job. I think it would be a good experience for me to try it out.
Another reason why I would like to do the Spot feature is because I like filming interviews and I like to be behind the camera. I'd like to learn more about filming and I want to improve my filming/camera skills. This is mostly because I can't act and I am very shy, well, for the most part.
I'd like to do the Movie Trailer because I think of it as a 'fun' category. I've seen a bunch of movie trailers, in my 11 years of breathing and it tries and convinces you or pursade you to want to watch the movie when it comes out. Or a movie trailer is like a sneak peak or a preview of the movie. Some movies I couldn't care less about because the movie trailer didn't catch my eye or it wasn't exciting or interesting to me. But, then there are those others that make me impatient and excited for the movie! Some of them include voice overs, or music to set the mood and kind of guide the storyline. I want to learn how to do these kinds of stuff when editing.
In conclusion, I would like to do either the Spot Feature or the Movie trailer is because I would like to improve my filming and camera skills and I would like to learn how to do cool things when editing. S.T.N. and the trip is a lot to think about.
In class, we have been providing feedback to our classmates on their 1st Quarter Project. As we looked at the videos, with the help from our partner and our group, we picked the best one that would match on the criteria sheets. We also had to provide our opinions and thoughts. It is important to be honest. It is not meant to get your feelings hurt. I thought it was really helpful, although we didn't evaluate our video. So the topic for this weekly blog is on how feedback is important.
Feedback is a person's suggestion or reaction to help you improve on your work. Or it could be how someone feels toward it. It helps you get better by using the feedback from a person or a teacher and taking it to fix a mistake you have made. Feedback is important because it helps you learn from your mistakes. It also makes you pay attention to your work...and do it with quality the first time.
When giving feedback to another person or group, it is important to be honest. Just because it's your friend your evaluating, doesn't mean it's right to give them a really high or good score. However, that doesn't mean you need to be very harsh or mean. Same goes the other way around- if it's someone who gave you a bad score or someone you genuinely don't like. It's important to be honest and true when giving feedback.
Feedback is helpful in anything-everything. For example, in my English class my teacher, Mrs.Souza always gives me feedback in little comments or notes. Another example is in my Kajikembo class. The instructor provides feedback to help us advance in learning and fix our mistakes.
Feedback is an important thing in life. It helps us avoid mistakes in the future and learn from them. But it is important to be honest. Well anyways Byee!! 😊
This week's assigned blog topic is about my future after high school. There will only be 1 blog this week. Honestly, I really don't know what kind of job I would like to have or what I'd like to take up in college-or what kind of college I'd go to. After a lot of thinking, here's my 3 things I'd like to do after i finish high school.
I'd like to be a robotic engineer or a mechanical engineer. The reason why is because I always wanted to be an engineer and I love robotics. The thing that inspired me was that my moms boss was diagnosed with cancer D:. That's when mechanical engineering came into hand. They created robots that were programmed to see what's happening inside his body.
I would go to Cal poly tech, San Luis Obispo in California. There, I would take up mechanical engineering or computer science. Cal Poly tech San Luis obispo is a good technology and engineering college. They also have a robotics club and laboratory which is a plus.
One thing I'd like to do after I graduate high school or even college is to travel to a place I have never been before. I've always liked to travel, so traveling by myself will be fun and interesting.
Growing up, the teacher or your parents always asks you "what do you want to be when you grow up?". But I never actually took it seriously or thought hard about it. The life after high school will be a big step and a big change. It will be challenging but interesting. Although I say what I want to be or where I would like to go, it could always change. But for now, this is the end of my blog. Byee!! 😊
Have you ever been left waiting and not knowing how long you'll be there? How did it make you feel? Well, this week's assigned blog topic is on Punctuality-whether or not being on time is important. To begin with, I do think that being on time is EXTREMELY important, whether it's a project, or just everyday life (Doctor or Dentist Appointments, School, Work, meetings, flights, etc.). Being punctual shows that you respect other peoples time. Once that time is lost, you can not get it back. Time is one of few things which can not be bought. Being punctual is a reflection on ones character; how one views you as a person. It shows responsibility. Being punctual allows us to have the most effective use of our time, because when your punctual, your prepared, organized, and calm. In this blog, I will be telling you about why being punctual is an important trait to have.
The first reason being punctual is an important trait to have is because it shows responsibility. When you are punctual, you get things done, and you avoid procrastination and having to stress out. I think this is because you are more organized and prepared.
The second reason being punctual is important is because it shows respect for yourself and others. If you are on time to an event or meeting, it shows you respect the other person's time and schedule. However, if your late, it shows that your lazy, not responsible, and that you don't respect the other person's time. Being punctual allows the stress off of you and the other person to go away.
The final reason to explain why being punctual is important is because it shows your true character, the real person you are on the inside, when no one is watching. As you just read in the paragraph above this one, if you don't respect other peoples time, you end up showing and proving that you are a lazy, not responsible person.
In Conclusion, Being a punctual person is important, it helps to be organized and responsible. One person I consider punctual is Mr. M. He starts the meeting at the exact time he says the meeting will be held at and same goes for everything else in the class. I should really start trying to be punctual, because I often procrastinate and end up stressing out towards the end of the deadline. Well....that's it for this blog I guesh. Byee!
Hi! My name is Alaysia Navor and this is my second year in the CKTV Media Productions class. I'll be posting 2 blogs each week so make sure you go and check them out!
